The University of Padova, a cornerstone of European higher education since 1222, has embarked on a pioneering role within the Jean Monnet Network “In Other Fields of Education.” With its rich heritage, the university boasts a vibrant community of around 70,000 students, including 5,200 international scholars, supported by a dedicated staff of over 4,800 across research, teaching, technical, and administrative roles. Padova offers a wide array of academic programs spanning sciences, medicine, social sciences, and humanities, through its 32 departments, 38 doctoral courses, and extensive research and service centers.
Renowned for its research excellence, Padova stands among Italy’s top universities, demonstrating significant impact, productivity, and presence in academic circles. This achievement is bolstered by substantial funding from both national and European sources, highlighting the university’s prowess in attracting investment for groundbreaking projects. Padova’s commitment to research and academic freedom is further recognized by the European Commission’s ‘HR Excellence in Research’ award, underlining its adherence to the European Charter of Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers.
The Department of Political Science, Law, and International Studies (SPGI) is at the forefront of Padova’s multidisciplinary approach, offering a broad spectrum of expertise in European public policies, global studies, human rights, and more. The department’s dynamic curriculum and research focus on pressing European issues like sustainability and gender policies, demonstrating a deep engagement with contemporary challenges.
Under the Jean Monnet Network, the University of Padova takes a leadership role, aiming to disseminate EU values through education and outreach. The SPGI department, leveraging its multidisciplinary expertise, will not only offer specialized training to partner schools but also coordinate the project’s activities. This initiative is set to deepen students’ engagement with European values, culminating in the Unipd4Europe Summer Schools in Brixen, where students from various countries will explore European Affairs, continuing Padova’s long-standing tradition of fostering education and involvement in European values.
