Climate change is one of the most pressing global issues of our time. Its effects are already visible: rising global temperatures, melting ice caps, droughts, and disrupted ecosystems. But the real question is: Are we doing enough to fight it?
In her essay, Tea Lojacono, a student at Colegio CEU Sanchinarro, highlights the most critical consequences of climate change and offers reflections on how individuals and nations can take action to protect the environment.
The Main Impacts of Climate Change
- Biodiversity Loss
Changing ecosystems and extreme weather events are forcing many species to migrate or face extinction. Biodiversity is at risk, and with it, the balance of natural ecosystems.
- Impact on Agriculture
Climate variability negatively affects crop yields. Droughts, floods, and shifting seasons reduce productivity, threatening food security around the world.
- Water Scarcity
With less rainfall and more extreme heat, water becomes a scarce resource—not only for agriculture, but for human consumption and industry too.
From Public Transport to Hydrogen Cars: What Can Be Done?
Tea points out that while governments and companies must act, individuals also play a crucial role. Some positive examples already in action include:
- Using public transportinstead of private cars to reduce emissions.
- Developing sustainable vehicles, such as electric and hydrogen-powered cars.
- Raising awarenessabout our daily habits and their impact on the environment.
Climate Change and Global Politics
The essay touches on an emerging geopolitical dimension of climate change, such as the USA–China tensions over Arctic shipping routes. Due to melting polar ice, new maritime passages are opening—routes that were previously frozen. This strategic shift is fueling political and economic competition, showing how climate change is also reshaping global power balances.
A Call for Global Awareness and Action
As Tea Lojacono wisely states:
“Even the smallest action can have a positive consequence for our planet.”
Whether it’s using less plastic, saving energy, or supporting green policies, every choice we make can shape a more sustainable future.
We all share the same planet, and only by acting together—citizens, institutions, and young generations—can we avoid the worst effects of climate change.
Conclusion
Climate change affects us all. But through education, innovation, and daily responsibility, we can turn this global crisis into an opportunity to build a greener, more united Europe.
Thanks to young voices like that of Tea Lojacono from Colegio CEU Sanchinarro, we are reminded that the future is not just in the hands of politicians—it is also in the hearts and minds of the youth.
“The climate change
Climate change is a noticeably big problem in this century. But are we doing everything that we could do to prevent it? Nowadays, there are several types of problems related to climate change. I am going to expose some of them:
- Firstly, the loss of biodiversity. Since animals have had so many sudden changes in their environment and are subjected to change their habitats.
- The negative impact in agriculture. The changes in climate are having bad repercussions in crops and this will affect all the population.
- The scarcity of water. Climate change is producing a lack of water because it rains less, that means less water to crops
Some many people want to change this because our planet is collapsing. Some of these techniques that are used to prevent this are very simple and accessible for all people and others not so much. For example, a lot of people use the public transport because is more sosteinable instead of using car. Some companies of cars are doing cars more sostainable and the scientist are doing prototips of cars that go with nitrogen.
For example, nowadays, is having an economic war between the USA and China and is influenced by the climate change. This war consists in that China wants to pass products by boats from the artic to Netherlands. This is part of climate change because earlyer this was no possible because was freezeing. USA don’t want to this happened because is not beneficial for them. This could happened because Greenland wan’t the independence from Denmark. And when Greenland take their independence, China is going to invade it and USA have militar bases on Greenland so USA is going to lose but China is going to win or vice versa.
Finally, I think that all people in this incredible world have to be aware of that if we continous like this our planet is going to finish very bad. And that the minimum thing that a person do is having a good consecuence to our planet.”
