On December 5th, the Lykeio Agiou Antoniou in Cyprus became a vibrant hub for democratic dialogue as it hosted Michalis Hatzipantelas, a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) from the European People’s Party (EPP).

The event, which included students from both the Lykeio and the Agios Antonios Gymnasium, offered a rare window into the inner workings of Brussels and Strasbourg for the younger generation.

Lykeio Agios Antonios is a school partner in the Jean Monnet “European Values” project, aimed at fostering teachers’ and students’ knowledge in European history, institutions and fundamental values.

The visit was not merely a formal presentation but an interactive exchange on the current challenges facing the European Union. Mr. Hatzipantelas shared insights into his daily responsibilities within the European Parliament, detailing how European legislation directly impacts the lives of citizens across the Mediterranean and beyond.

The discussion centered on the evolving European reality, touching upon geopolitical stability, the digital transition, and the necessity of maintaining a competitive yet social market economy. The MEP emphasized that the European project relies on active civic participation to remain resilient against modern threats.
