On September 26th, Emiliyan Stanev School (Bulgaria) celebrated the European Day of Languages with 11th V class students. The students have created handmade posters inspired by the year’s topic, “Languages for Peace”.

The activity was part of the European Values and Migration Project (EUAMI) whose aim is to sow the seeds of innovative pedagogical practices, promoting a vibrant exchange of ideas and methodologies pertaining to EU matters, with a specific focus on migration.

The students were divided into working groups in which they made posters to describe linguistic diversity in a creative way. Through their work, they demonstrated how linguistic differences represent an invaluable resource and a common asset that enriches the European project.

Indeed, the European Union has 24 official languages, as well as numerous dialects and regional languages, reflecting the cultural and historical diversity of the continent.
This linguistic plurality contributes to the cultural richness of Europe, promoting local and regional identities that coexist with a common feeling of belonging; languages are in fact not only tools of communication, but also expressions of cultural variety and thought.

The European institutions recognise this value and guarantee multilingualism as a fundamental right of citizens. Every European citizen has the right to communicate with the European institutions in his or her mother tongue, fostering inclusion and democratic participation.

Each group showed their creativity and ideas on how languages unite people, foster understanding and unity and build peace between different cultures. Their projects reflect the importance of diversity and tolerance to achieve harmony through languages.
