Ventotene, September 11th – The 2024 edition of the EUPress Summer School concluded today on the island of Ventotene, an event that brought together 50 students from Italy, Spain, Poland, and Romania, offering an unforgettable educational experience focused on the European values of press freedom and freedom of expression.
For five days, the young participants were immersed in a diverse and intense program, ranging from debates and role-playing games to simulations and practical workshops, all aimed at deepening their understanding of journalism and providing them with the necessary tools to approach this profession.
Voices of the Students and Professors
The satisfaction of the participants was evident, as they expressed enthusiasm for what they had learned and the opportunities the project provided. “These were intense days, but extremely enriching. Not only did I learn writing and editorial design techniques, but I also understood the importance of truth in journalism,” said a 17-year-old student. “I will never forget the experience of the press conference simulation; it made me realize how complex it is to defend press freedom.”
The professors also shared their excitement about the project, one of them stated “Our goal was to help students understand the importance of a free and fair press, and I believe this project hit the mark. Seeing the commitment and passion of these young people gives me hope for the future of journalism in Europe.”
A More Than Positive Outcome
As the participants leave Ventotene, they carry with them not only a wealth of theoretical and practical knowledge but also new friendships and a deeper awareness of the role journalism plays in building a more united and free Europe.
Ventotene continues to be, not only symbolically, the cradle of a European dream that is renewed through the younger generations.
