Students of the second and third grades of Zespół Szkół Administracyjno-Ekonomicznych (ZSAE) school in Gdynia (Poland) participated in the Erasmus Days 2024, five days completely dedicated to the celebration of the initiatives and opportunities that the Erasmus project has been offering for almost forty years.

The Erasmus project was created in 1987 on the initiative of the European Community to promote mobility and cooperation between university students within Europe.

Its name is a tribute to the famous Dutch philosopher and humanist Erasmus of Rotterdam, known for his travels to various European countries such as France, Italy and England, where he studied and worked, and has become a symbol of cultural exchange and open-mindedness.

The initial objective of the programme was to foster intercultural academic training through study or internship periods abroad. Over time, the project has expanded and even changed its name to ‘Erasmus +’: now, exchanges are not only aimed at university students but also include high school students, apprentices, professionals, and workers, fostering greater social inclusion and a vision of European citizenship.

During the meeting, as part of the Erasmus 2024 Days, the students talked about their experiences through EU Erasmus exchange programmes and trips to Italy, Spain and Portugal.

Erasmus-funded projects aimed at developing entrepreneurship and vocational and educational training in students have been running at the ZSAE school for many years.

Professor Jolanta Wdowiak announced a new EU project implemented at the school: EUAMI – European Values and Migration, coordinated by the University of Padua.

The meeting ended with a quiz on the European Union. The winners were rewarded with small gifts.

The aim of this Erasmus activity in high schools is to promote and disseminate the founding values of the European Union among students through their direct involvement in interactive discussions and activities led by Erasmus participants.

The initiative seeks to foster a sense of European identity and citizenship by encouraging students to reflect on the importance of these values in their daily lives and in their future role as active members of society.
