After weeks of cross-border collaboration, research, and hands-on media production, the EUPress Collaborative Workshop – organized in partnership with Euractiv Italia and CesUE – reached its culmination on March 26, more than seventy students from four European countries gathered online to present their original journalistic articles on some of the most pressing issues facing the European Union today.
The one-hour session, hosted on Zoom and moderated by Francesca Berti of Roma Tre University, celebrated the students’ achievements and the collective work developed over a 30-hour program. Divided into five editorial groups, students presented their articles, each addressing a core European policy area. The event showcased not just individual talent but the effectiveness of collaborative journalism in an educational setting.
Each group outlined the structure of their articles, discussed their editorial process, and answered questions about their approach to sourcing, storytelling, and verification. With guidance from university mentors and editorial tutors, the students’ work tackled complex topics such as EU defense integration, green technology funding, social rights, and post-Conference on the Future of Europe proposals.
Among the standout elements of the session was the professionalism shown by the student editors—responsible for coordinating group efforts, refining content, and ensuring journalistic quality. Their leadership added another layer of realism to the workshop’s newsroom simulation.
Concluding the event, Professor Fabio Masini of Roma Tre praised the participants for embracing the spirit of European cooperation and critical engagement.
As the final session drew to a close, the event not only marked the conclusion of the EUPress Collaborative Workshop but also the beginning of a new phase of visibility for the students’ work. Their articles—covering key European issues with depth, clarity, and a fresh perspective—will be featured in a Special Report published by Euractiv Italia and now available on FocusEurope Italia site.
The report will showcase the collective output of this unique transnational newsroom, offering readers a glimpse into how Europe looks through the eyes of its youngest communicators. In an era where civic engagement and media literacy are more crucial than ever, these student journalists are already helping to shape the European conversation.
